I went as a solo traveler and even though it's not the most fancy and most clean hotel I came back for the 3rd time for the position and especially for the safety, cause I always felt very safe in the hotel (especially as solo young woman) and stuffs are nice and cute
Very hospitable staff.
Value for money
The staff were genuinely kind. Bfast was good. The location was great!
Nice aparthotel
Clean,’spacious, well located and friendly, helpful staff, in particular Hamid - a friendly, welcoming face to see upon arrival after a very long trip to the dessert.
Good location in a 'posh' area of Marrakech, room was a mini suite, decent bed, quiet, super-friendly staff, free secure parking for a motorcycle.
Room
We have stayed at a number of hotels in Marrakech but this one we will definitely stay at again. The staff are friendly, the place was clean and our apartment was large and airy. There was a fridge, hotplate and all utensils if you wanted to cook for yourself. The bedroom was a reasonable size with a comfortable bed. How people can complain about the breakfast is beyond me. It was more than enough (large bread roll, butter, egg, cheese, jam, croissant, pan aux chocolat, orange juice and coffee. In fact I could not eat all of it. Some people expect extensive continental AND cooked English wherever they go. The Hotel restaurant serves a variety of food all at very reasonable prices and cooked beautifully.
The great thing is you get an apartment all to yourself for a super price, it's got kitchen utensils and a fridge. And a hot plate but that's only supposed to be used for heating hit water for tea not actual cooking.
The apartment was very clean and the bed comfortable.
My critisism would be the smell of ciggerettes in hallways /foyer and a dog outside that barked all the night during my stay and kept me awake.
I would stay again just not on the side where the dog is.
I stayed at Assounfou from the 7th - 12th July with my son (22 years) and daughter (16 years). We had a very pleasant stay. Two particular receptionists Hamza & Tami were extremely helpful and made our stay there much better. Both were patient with us and gave us advice of where to visit, taxi fares ranges, printed our boarding passes etc. The other receptionist called Leila was not friendly and seemed as if she was getting irritated by my questions. So in the end I just waited for when Hamza or Tami came on duty.
Our hotel room was a lovely size. Spacious living room, little fridge , one plate stove (we didn't cook anything on it) nice sized shower & toilet and bedroom with three medium sized beds. The cleaner called Halima was so lovely and she communicated to us is Arabic and we spoke to her in basic English but somehow we chatted to each other and enjoyed our chats. We didn't say goodbye to her because she was off duty when we left.
The so called continental breakfast was not great at all. No variety just two croissants, egg, some big bun, orange juice or tea. The restaurant staff were initially quite rude then got much better as the time went on....maybe language barrier at the beginning.
There was a small pool in the back but we didn't use it but saw other people in there enjoying themselves.
Assounfou is closley situated to the Carre Eden shopping centre, lots of ATMs around and places to eat out and change our money.....very cheap holiday for us since the GBP is very powerful against the local currency (Dirham).
Be careful of taxi firms they will rip you off though!
I would stay at Assounfou again because the positives outweigh the negatives.
Room is very big and bathroom is very big. Room has one living room and bedroom with balcony. For cleaness l gave 4 stars. For Morrocan standard is very clean. Breakfast is every day the same with egg and croissant, juice and coffee or tea. This hotel is 20 mins from centre. It is in very modern district across there are a lot of stores like Zara, Monsoon, adidas and other. There are a lot of restaurants with great food. Very good.
I have stayed many times in Hotel Assounfou on regular visits to Marrakech and have always been satisfied with the service and staff there. Generally I book online with a reputable online booking website, but I made the mistake of booking personally at the reception desk for two nights for my return trip to Marrakech. On the day I arrived I was told that they had no room for me because they had booked a group. Obviously a group booking was more lucrative than my solo booking. Yes, they sent me to another hotel which was ok, but it would have been more acceptable if I had been sent an email or an apology. I will never stay at Hotel Assounfou again.....but I doubt that it matters to them. One of the downsides of solo travel is that you are less important as a customer it seems!
Assounfou Apart-Hotel good hotel , good place : ( Angle Rue Imam Malek et Rue Ibn, Marrakech 40000, Morocco ) i like this hotel , i like service , i will go to it next time to visit it and pass week end
Had a fantastic stay at the hotel. Our room had a balcony and separate living room which made a huge difference. We didn't feel as enclosed when your only in one room. Only downside was the hot plate wasn't working so we couldnt make our morning morrocan mint tea but the restaurant downstairs supplied tea so no drama. For value you can't really get any better.
Nice hotel with great services provided by the guys employed. It was both my pressure and family having travelled to that hotel we enjoyed alot and I wish to go back to another day maybe with my own kids
While the hotel is not exactly in the old medina, which many tourists prefer, it does have a great location near the Fena Square and other main attractions. I stayed in it twice, and there isn't much to complain about except the noise. Make sure that your room overlooks the swimming pool and not the street, or otherwise, you will wake up from your sleep many times by people fighting in this busy street. Staff are extremely polite and helpful.
A bit tired but very friendly staff who go out of their way to be helpful. Comfortable , firm bed. Nice clean sheets with bolster and additional pillows. Clean towels every day . We didn't use it to cook but electric hob, pots, crockery and cutlery all provided. Fridge handy for water and juice. Breakfast very nice and very typical. Boiled eggs, preserves and cheese . Variety of freshly made local bread, choc au pain and sweet traditional pastries, , Freshly squeezed orange juice and a choice of coffees, milk or teas. Waiters are lovely and can't do enough for you.
Across the road is a non touristy local market where we found the people extremely friendly , non pushy and welcoming. Wish them a good morning and be friendly and they will return it in spades. Excellent position to walk down to the hubbub of the central square and the noisy, bustling souks. Took us a gentle stroll of about 15 mins , depending on stops to look in the parks on the main Mohammed 6 th road. Plenty choices of restaurants on the way down but more expensive than on the back streets or stalls on the square. We preferred being located here as the medina is very busy and noisy. Found this the best of both worlds. Has a small pool and a Would base ourselves in this area again.
We booked the hotel as part of a package with Easyjet & took the 'Superior Option' and got exactly what it "Said on the Tin". Top floor apartment 506, double + single bed in bedroom with it own A/C, lounge with 2 sofa's + own A/C and cooking area with double rings, fridge & sink & extractor and enough of everything to make & serve a meal for 4, Shower, toilet , bidet and large wash basin. & hair dryer . In the hall way double wardrobe. Safe [10dh per day, about 70p]. Large balcony with chairs & table with a view to the Atlas Mountains & Koutoubia Mosque. Apartment was cleaned every day and soap , toilet paper & shampoo was replenished as necessary, Sheets & towels were changed every second day. Breakfast was better than the 'Continental' listed where you got Hot drink of choice, glass of Fresh orange prepared while you wait, Plain roll, chocolate croissant, sweet bun, hard boiled egg [you could ask for it soft] , butter & preserves and it filled you up for the day and was served in the restaurant attached to the hotel. It also has an 'Unheated' small outdoor swimming pool open to both sexes, & massage parlor for females only. Good sized reception area & 24/7 desk staff who spoke some English [French is the 1st language] but were always very friendly & helpful and when we found the plug for the wash hand basin was missing with the use of a quick drawing was replaced in under 10 minutes. Yes decor is looking a bit tired, but it is only rated 3* and bed was clean & comfortable and gave you a good nights sleep.
Location could not be better situated in the 'New' French Quarter just behind the very upmarket 'Place du16 Novembre' with its very upmarket shops, restaurants & hotels and large open Plaza which makes finding your way back at night very easy as it is part of the 'Avenue Mohammed V' which is the main road that takes you down to 'Place Jemaa El Fna' which even with an artificial knee I could walk in under 30 minutes. Following the Avenue the other way north would take you through what you would describe as the 'Oxford Street' of Marrakech with lots designer shops & shopping malls interspersed with the likes of H&M. Directly across the road from the hotels is the Marche Central , outside lots of wonderful flower stalls, but go inside and you can buy everything with lots of fresh fruit , meat & fish kiosks, Artisan tailors, leather, wood & metal workers making & selling their wonderful products at about 25% of what you will be expected to pay at the main market at Jemaa El Fna and without all the 'Hassle' and there is also an 'Alcohol' Kiosk selling both local & European wines, beers & spirits at about UK prices which is a good deal in a supposedly 'Dry Country' . There are aslo some great & reasonably priced cafe's and restaurants surrounding and with a few minutes walk from the hotel Eveil des Sens our favorite which is verging on Michelin * for food , presentation & service with a set 3 course menu at 75dh [about £6] as well as only slightly more expensive Al a carte. and the indoor seating section is non-Smoking a rare thing in Morocco.
So overall we loved it, and would go back and stay there again.
i have been to many hotels in marrakesh, this was the best, undoubtedly the staff, the cleaners, and everything, i would deffo use it over n over again, this hotels based in Gueliz, the modern city, always used the local bus to get around, loads to do nearby, i got this as a room only, i knew where and what i was doing,
Stayed here this week with 3 friends. After reading the reviews we were dreading it. How wrong. Fantastic location, lovely staff and daily cleaning. Our air con wasn't getting hot on heat setting so they gave us extra blankets and towels. The spa downstairs was great and very reasonable. Never made it to breakfast though but the girls said it was OK. Cannot recommend enough was really a great stay and I would come again.
Location very good. Very close to the fast food cains and only 25mins walk from old city.
Accommodation could do with a bit of work especially the bath rooms and breakfast can really be improved. But for me it was fine.
The room was nice and clean, although the air cons weren't working properly. We had two apartments but only half the air cons worked in both.
The hotel is in a good location, nearby to many things.
The maids were also good and always ready to clean the rooms. The rooms were cleaned everyday.
The breakfast server was nice and friendly.
Spa staff was also warm and welcoming.
Pool was also nice to cool down in.
Restaurant food was also very nice and also not very expensive.
I have stayed here 3 times and love the location. It's quiet, away from the noise of the Medina. It's a 20 minute walk to Jamaa el fna and the train station. A 10 minute walk to the bus station so its handy for transport links. It's in Gueliz which is handy as we always come during Ramadan (to avoid the crowds. Seriously surprised everybody else does not come!!!) And McDonalds in gueliz is the only place we can find open for lunch.
The apartment is large. Separate bedroom, lounge/ kitchinette plus bathroom. AC, good wi-fi and breakfast too for great price.
However, now for the bad news. It is a little rundown. The bathrooms are tatty, some things do not work, fridge TV and ac on separate occasions. The receptionist was off hand once and kept my passports so I had to go back and get them when I realised he did not give them back to me!!!!! Highly unprofessional, or maybe my french is not good enough to entirely understand him? Anyway if you come here remember to complain if you encounter these things ( in french, ah merde!!!).
